VoIP Phone and PBX
« on: October 20, 2012, 12:03:18 AM »
Object: Create Phone system for our space
Reason: Have a dedicated line to make calls with, as well as, actual voice-mail box for the group.
Cost: Less than $150

How Awesome would it be to stop giving out your personal number as Makers contact information. Well we can fix that, using a RaspberryPI and some FreePBX software we can make that happen.

The above will allow you to use programs like x-lite and make calls using a head set and your computer

Why stop there when we could take it a step further and make it a real project.

Using an old Cisco 7940G we can have a 'traditional' phone that will ring ring, and allow you to call out.

What if:

We took a SPA942 and some old Payphone and mashed them together.

Would be perfect (Even if you win, that guy did the auction wrong..."Free Shipping" aka freight aka mislabeled)

I feel confident we could dismantle a voip phone and stick that inside a payphone.

I'm amazed. I can buy a 50 year old phone and it will still plug in and function on today's telephone network.

...cool

"Dear BSPC Team Member:

1996 was one ofthe most important years ever in the history of our payphone
services business unit. it was the year that BSPC team members, along with many
thousand other BellSouth employees, hosted the world for the Centennial Olympic
Games in Atlanta. BellSouth showed our visitors -- and our customers  what a world»
class telecommunications provider can do, and BellSouth Public Communications was
prominent in that success story.

1996 was also the year that the entire BSPC team accomplished tremendous
internal changes in order to better compete and win in the new level playing field
mandated by the Telecommunications Act of 1996.

ln recognition of the truly outstanding and historic efforts and results achieved by
BSPC in 1996 in the arenas of Olympic service and business transformation, I am
proud to present you with the enclosed BellSouth payphone  featuring the full-color
Olympic rings logo. I hope you will appreciate this unique Olympic memento and enjoy
displaying it on a plaque or in a shadowbox,  making it into a clock. A

Thank you again for a job well done and best wishes as we work toward a strong
future together."
